Privacy Policy

Likums ("we", "the service") answers questions about Latvian law and links every answer back to the law in force on likumi.lv. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it. It applies to the Likums website and to the Likums connector when you use it inside ChatGPT, Claude, or another AI assistant.

01What we collect

We collect only what the service needs to work:

  • Account details — your email address, captured when you sign in with a magic link or a supported sign-in provider, plus your language preference.
  • Your questions and our answers — the legal questions you ask and the answers we return, kept as your conversation history so you can see them again. Question text is encrypted at rest.
  • Usage metering — counts of how many questions you have asked, used to enforce the free-plan daily limit and to recognise a Pro subscription.
  • Billing data — when paid plans are enabled, Stripe processes your payment; we store a subscription record and a Stripe customer reference, never your card number.
  • A rate-limiting fingerprint — an irreversible, truncated hash (SHA-256) of your IP address, used only to throttle abuse. We do not store your raw IP address.

02What we do NOT do

  • We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data.
  • We do not use your questions or answers to train AI models — neither ours nor a third party's.
  • We do not show advertising or share your data with advertisers.
  • We do not ask for, or want, your personal legal documents — the service is question-and-answer only.

03AI processing and third parties

To produce an answer we send your question to service providers that act as our processors:

  • Anthropic (Claude) — generates the drafted answer from the retrieved law. Your question text is sent to Anthropic for this purpose.
  • Google (Gemini) — turns your query into a search embedding so we can find the relevant provisions.
  • Stripe — processes payments when paid plans are enabled.
  • Vercel — hosts the application and serves requests.
  • Our database — your account and history are stored in a private PostgreSQL database we operate on servers in the EU (Finland).

04The law we cite

These providers process data on our instructions and may not use it for their own purposes. likumi.lv is the public, official source of the consolidated law text we cite — we read it; we never send it your personal data.

05How long we keep it

  • Account data — until you delete your account.
  • Conversation history — retained while your account is active so you can revisit it; deleted when you erase your account.
  • Uploaded material — Likums does not accept document uploads; any transient upload record is purged automatically once past its retention date.
  • Billing records — kept for as long as the law requires us to retain financial records, then anonymised.

06Your rights (GDPR)

Likums is operated from Latvia and follows the EU General Data Protection Regulation. You have the right to:

  • Access — receive a copy of the personal data we hold about you, including your decrypted question history.
  • Rectification — correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure — delete your account and personal data. Erasure is implemented in the service: it removes your account, conversations, questions, answers, sessions, and consent records, and detaches any billing customer reference.
  • Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable form.
  • Objection and restriction — object to or restrict certain processing.

07Where to complain

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Latvian Data State Inspectorate (Datu valsts inspekcija, dvi.gov.lv).

08Children

Likums is not directed at children; it is intended for adults who need information about Latvian law.

09Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. The date at the top shows when it last changed; material changes will be reflected here.
